Social Programs: Agriculture Ascendant’s company biologist leads workshops on improved farming techniques in six different communities. In conjunction with the workshops, Ascendant maintains an experimental farm. The purpose of this farm is to demonstrate better land usage and new grasses for grazing in order to help local livestock herders improve the health of their animals and improve their yield. The company believes that there are important links between the areas it supports. For instance, for nutritional education to be effective, children must have a balanced supply of nutritious foods. A major focus of Ascendant’s agricultural program is on integral farms. Local farmers are instructed on improved land use and growth of a variety of foods in addition to cash crops to ensure the nutrition of their families and additional sources of income. In addition, veterinary services have been provided to farmers in the communities with the vaccination of over 300 farm animals, treatment of diseases and parasites in livestock and birds, and workshops on animal husbandry and bird sanitation. |
