I am in receipt of your letter of July 5, 2007 and I am not at all surprised by your response and defence of your trans-national, non-government organization’s actions towards the Shuar people of Zamora Chinchipe. As the duly elected leader of the Shuar Federation of Zamora Chinchipe (representing nearly 6000 Shuar people - 55 Shuar communities) I find the tone of your letter condescending to our people and grossly inaccurate of the economic and social situation of Indigenous peoples in Southern Ecuador.

It is the intention of CONFENIAE to inform the Canadian people, Canadian Government, Ecuadorian Government and the international community of your work and support of groups who use violence, intimidation and unlawful activities against our communities who are in support of responsible mining as a tool for community development.
