Social Programs: Education Ascendant believes strongly that the best way it can contribute to the communities is by helping individuals help themselves. The Company offers organizational and leadership workshops in several communities, helping foster community capacity to resolve its own issues and take charge of its own development. Most recently, the company gave pre-university preparation course scholarships for the graduating students of the Garcia Moreno high school, as well as training courses for four of their teachers. For the past year, the company has provided transportation to school for students who would not have been able to attend classes otherwise. Ascendant has provided dozens of computers to schools around the valley, which in most cases constitutes student's first exposure to information technology. The company has also supported many other improvements to school infrastructure and provides regular assistance to local teachers, parents associations, and educational authorities in preparing and presenting projects for government and other third party funding. The Company intends to help improve the Garcia Moreno High School as well as establish a secondary school in Chalguyaku Alto. These initiatives will raise the level of education in the area and prepare more students to go on to college, thus increasing quality of life through augmented education and income. |
